California Halibut is a 5 fish limit. Pacific (don't worry too much about that around So Cal) Halibut is a "1" fish limit.

A few days a year, you might hit a pocket/area that can yield 5 legals. I sure as heck don't need to keep that many. But it is possible on those days the bite is on fire. I've caught over 5 in an area of about 50 yards(last Fall). I made only 2 passes over a spot that just kept yielding one every 5-10 minutes or so.
I met a beach front property homeowner kayak fisher whom said he caught 20 plus legals during a post evening of grunnion running. WOW!!!
Of course, I'd rather come across just one BIG boy butt instead of multiple 10-15+ lbrs.
