I have considered placing the plate on the gunwhale right infront of my sitting position for ez striking...the holder I have is removable and therefore you can still paddle...the only problem is that you cant stick your rod in it when you decide to move of course. So, I'm considering the flat outer area on the side of the of the aft well, It is a bit angled, but I thought it would still be ok....But I'm a newbie, so I'm sure to make the wrong decision. }:-\
