: Do you troll the bouce ball rig, or do you drift with it?
I've had the most success when drifting. Though if there is no current, or you want to troll against the current, go for it. I sometimes bounce ball up current on my way to the spot I want to start my drift from. As usual, the key is keeping the weight skipping along the bottom. Paddle slow. You sometimes snag more kelp or grass this way, but it can work. Just check the rig every once in a while or when you notice "no fluttering" coming from your dodger. No flutter usually means you're tangled, snagged something or you're hooked up.
The drift chute really helps when you're coming down current (drifting). Some days you don't require one, but I always have mine just in case. Btw, I caught my Black Sea Bass and Halibut yesterday while I had my Drift Chute out.
