I went to Walmart to pick up a headlight for the La Jolla Tournament since I knew I was going to launch at or near the shotgun start. I picked up a rayovac headlight that has three settings. The first is two white LEDs, bright enough to see around my yak yet very power efficient to not drain the batteries. The second setting is a single red LED, which I used most the morning. It is great in fog and it worked great with my fish finder on the lowest backlight setting. Last there is an adjustable spot beam which I could beam down in the water and see the bait I was pulling up.
I don't think it is submersible, but it is water proof as I took two waves in the chest on the way out. It cost 12 bucks and runs on 3 AAA bateries. It is light weight, small and has a double strap system for your head.
I am starting to see LEDs show up on all kinds of stuff lately.
