I parked down by the North Island Naval Air Station back gate and dragged my kayak about ¼ mile across the sandy Coronado beach.

The waves were 1-3 foot and rolling, it was easy to time a dry launch. I took the short paddle over to Zuniga Point and along the way caught a few 6”green back that I kept on the bottom for halibut.

While at point Z I fished among the many lobster trap buoys for 2 nice sculpin, both caught on a white 3/8 oz Renegade brand spinner bait retrieved slowly along the bottom.

I caught a short butt on a chrome and blue krock.

The ocean was flat, the predawn cold. The sunrise was yellow, instantly warming and rose directly over the pointed roof of the Hotel Del.

I saw two house size balls of anchovy. They were so dense that when they swam under my yak they blocked out every thing below them. They were being pushed from below by 1 lb mackerel and from above by 20 pelicans and 50 seagulls.

God Bless,
John
