: I plan on taking my pro 2 tandem out for the first time. I am thinking of going to king harbor. The water is pretty calm and I feel thats a good start. I need some tips on what tackle should I use when fishing the calm side of king harbor. I know live bait is the best bait but if I cant get my hands on any whats a good alternative. What am I more likely to catch there. Any advice is well appreciated

I'm from down in San Diego and have never fished King Harbor. Also I don't know how much experience have. If you are just getting started and don't have your boat fully rigged then you want to keep it simple. I would take a bass rod with 8-10 pound test and a little heavier rod with 15-20 pound test. For terminal tackle I'd take FishTraps and Blams. The FT"s should range from 3 inch with 1/4 or 3/8 heads and 4-5 inchers with 1oz. heads. For the Blams get the Rainbow trout color with the 1/4- 3/8 yellow heads. Also take along a large Crocodile with either the reflective tape or the Blue/Chrome. This will allow you to catch everything from bass, Barracuda,WSB, to Halibut, most anything you'll come across in King Harbor. Buy FT"s that look like Sardines or Anchovies and work the big ones one the bottom real slow jigging occasionally for Halibut. Good Luck, hope you get bent!
