Since temps are cooling down, unless you're in the tropics, the warping shouldn't be a factor until things heat up. I have seen damage from hanging a kayak incorrectly. Be sure it's upside down so that no pressure is put on the hull. If you're worried about the rope carving into the yak overtime, put a towel or something else soft to distribute the pressure over a wider, softer area.
Surf to Summit has a cool kayak hanger. It's good for up to 2 kayaks.
