Wanted to get out on the water again before the bit of surf and weather coming our way. Met Cane Gaffer and Fish Head on the beach at 6 AM. CG was going north toward Black's. F H and I went out to the kelp. Bait was tough, a Blacksmith, a 12 in. Smelt and finally a 7 in. Spanish Mac. Had a jig on the bottom of the sabiki get thumped and bit off. I threw the 6 in. FT all morning for nothing, Tried to reach CG on 72 with no comeback. Decided to troll a Hydro Mag over to the pier. I was rigging up that and had my mac sitting on the bottom in free spool with the clicker on and the FT was in gear on the bottom. The clicker went off hard and was grabbing the rod when the other 1 goes bendo peeling drag and pulling me backwards,. Thought I had a big double going decided to take care of the FT 1st, made a really big, deep run, got a little line than another hard run pulling me around in a half circle, I was slowly getting line back, when it started to run again and then all of a sudden nothing, pulled in nothing but line, pulled up the mac to find it was cut without even being in gear. So I guess a shark hit 1 than the other, the FT must have finally hit tooth or tail. I'm surprised I had it on for 10 minutes on 15# line . Wish I would have got it to color, there was like 25 ft visibility. The not knowing drives me crazy. It was the kind of morning you don't want to leave, the fishing was very slow, but the conditions were as good as it gets...Andy
