Light offshore breeze and 1-2 footers, made it out without taking one over the top. Could not make the right bait, caught alot of trout sized smelt and greenies that were even bigger. Saw alot of birds out on the NW corner (cormorants, gulls and pelicans), was slow on the inside so I decided to paddle out . Nobody on the water but the lobster boats, all morning. When I got near the birds I saw Barracuda crashing, looking down I could see them darting around with a few calicos in the mix. I had my 9 foot stick and started tossing the iron. Followers every cast , bumped every other, and a hookup every 5th or so. They didn't want it on the surface , had to let it sink 10 feet or so before grinding it in. Caught a couple on squid too and 1 on a crank bait. I was seeing some bigger ones but kept getting barely legals, (all released, I've tried barracuda alot of ways and just don't care for it) This went on for a few hours, right on the edge of the bull kelp. I was moving out aways when I saw what I quickly figured out was a school of breezing YT coming right by me. I threw the jig in front and beyond them and had a single follower that looked all of 5-6 lbs follow it and go right under me. I saw a few other things that made me think that there's a few bigger fish out there. All the action was out aways , with just some real short cuda around the point. Work was slow, so I stayed out until noon. Landed in even smaller surf, great day , you should have been there........Andy
