: Seakarp,I'll be looking around for a new boat this spring. I'm curious about how wet the seating is in a Tarpon 16'. How deep is the water in the seat area and the cockpit footwell. Are you sitting in puddle all the time? If yes, would scupper plugs in the seat area stop the puddle or just create a 'bowl'?Thanks,Keith
Keith,
On flat water the boat is dry in the seat area, as there is no scupper hole there. The sides are a bit low though and a small wave taken broadside will put some water in the boat, just how big a wave you'll need to find out for yourself. A wave taken on the bow has to be fairly large (over a foot) to put water in the seat area as there is a splash guard on the bow and the bow is quite a good distance to the seating area so those things help to keep you dry. If water does get into the seating area an air pillow helps both to keep you drier and let you sit longer in comfort in the somewhat oddly shaped seating depression(use only enough air to lift your butt a little). A sponge can help remove the water if need be. I put the cushion under my highback seat with lumbar support. You spend a lot more time sitting in a yak as a fisherman then many folks who are just out for a paddle. Now, in winter, since the water is cooler I wear dry pants and 7mm thick dive booties. I know I have a lot of comfort features going, but don't laugh, I am comfortable.
Hope that answers your question. Enjoy.
Fishon,
Seakarp
