: Ted,
I agree with everything you’ve said so far, which by the way doesn’t happen often.
I have invested many years in Marine Test and Engineering and I think that we can and need to develop a standard way of evaluating the performance of the different hulls.
I know that you don’t have to put a kayak in a wave tank to decide how efficiently it’s going to paddle or perform turns etc….
I wouldn’t buy a house because the realtor said it was BIG. I want to know how many square feet it is and then I’ll tell them if it’s big. I wouldn’t let my employer stick a roll of bills in my pocket and say, “trust me it’s a lot”. You get the point.
When an expert paddlers (what ever that is) says that one kayak is “fast” and another is “slow” that means nothing to me. I would like to know just how efficiently it is going to move through the water and I would like to see and number value put on it. Same thing goes for stability, at what point will the kayak break and roll? How many feet does it take to turn it? All of these questions can be answered with number values that can be used by the consumer to decide which kayak will best meet their personal needs.
I look forward to reading you kayak performance evaluation.
John
