I talked to a painter friend because I am very interested in some graphics on my boat. He said generally any paint that is made to adhere to plastic will break down the surface of the plastic material and adhere to it. This may cause a chemical reaction and prematurely break down the plastic material. He tried to paint those kids playhouses that are made the same material that most SOT’s are made out of with similar paint. The playhouse was warped after one summer and abandoned the next summer. He suggested painted decals or stickers and adhering them to my boat and then finding something to seal over that.
Thanks for the link it got me thinking.
: : I was reading Popular Mechanics product review about Krylons new product for plastic, Paint!; so I went to krylons site and found the product. Now you folks can put that little something extra on your yaks, Paint!. As a guy who had made most of the mistakes let me suggest you ask the maker first. Ocean Kayak will be glad to advise you, as will other mfgs.I can picture not liking the result and using a solvent to remove the paint, and the solvent eating your kayak!
