I launched through small, cold surf at 7am with Mike Knot, Jimm H and Tom Both. Mike and myself went to the point and fished with smelt, while Jimm and Tom went up north and fished with mini green backs.
I caught one white fish on the bottom in 85 feet of water on cut squid.
The wind was at least 15 knots when we all left at 11:30 and if it weren’t for my drift chute I don’t think I would have been able to keep by bait on the bottom with any thing less than 8 oz of lead.
Jimm and Tom showed up at the beach with a couple of nice stringers as usual.
It was good to meet and fish with you Mike and I REALLY hope to fish for T-sharks in Ocean side with you as soon as you get a Saturday off.
One final note:
Today the wind was blowing out to sea and if by chance a paddler had dropped their paddle it could have been fatal. I always carry a spare paddle and Mike uses a paddle leash. What ever you choose is up to you, but remember the wind that blows off shore is the kayaker’s greatest enemy.
