When bleeding your catch, the safest approach is to practice Total Blood Containment (TBC). The technique involves bleeding your fish into a plastic bag, which you transport back to shore for appropriate disposal. Otherwise, you run the risk of sending an invitation to unwanted guests. The concern is even greater if you bleed your fish in the vicinity of swimmers, surfers, and the like.
