I have a couple of Ugly Stick Intercoastal spinning rods with Shimano Sedona spinning reels that I have used for years. I got the rods at Walmart. I think they were $39 each. They are bolth 7' long. One is a 2 piece 6-10 lb that I have my Sedona 2000 on. I love this rig for throwing small plastics in the bay on 6 lb test. The other rod is a 1 piece 8-17 lb medium action. I have a Sedona 4000 with either 10 or 12 lb test on that one. I use this rig for drifting with frozen anchovies on the bottem. It will also work great for throwing larger plastics and small jigs and spoons. I have caught lots of fish with these setups. I haven't seen the Intercoastal version of the Ugly Stick for a few years. I don't know if they are still making them. The regular version will work just as well. The point is.If you feel comfortable with Ugly Sticks and are catching fish, then use them. Like you said about the guy that was laughing on the way out about the rig you were using for sand bass. I don't think he was laughing on the way in.
