While I have graphite poles that I use regularly for finesse fishing, I also have many ugly sticks in many different sizes. I have an ultra light 5 footer that I use with 2# test that I love. I can crawl through brush and over rocks on my hands and knees without fear of breaking the pole. And not worry about lossing that 16 in brown trout due to pole breakage. My 12 yr old son has a few too, including a medium light model that stands up to 15lb Corvina and the Salton Sea on 8 lb test with him doing his best to break the pole and the line. LOL So needless to say Ugly sticks are the pole of choice for many applications IMHO... And I highly recommend them. The only draw back is sensitivty compared to graphite for finesse fishing. Again
IMHO How this helps

: I have been extremely fortunate that I have not had to buy any fishing equipment except for a few things I wanted, like my mooching reels and some cheap light bass equipment. My uncle retired from fishing and gave a ton of equipment.I lost one of my better poles and reels in the January 1st fiasco and I will be looking at a new pole. I am very good at making equipment work that others laugh at. I took my kmart/walmart shakespeare 6-12lb spinning set up on a twilight sand bass party boat and out fished everyone on the boat in number of fish landed. One of the fishermen on the way out laughed at my pole and asked "who brought the kid's pole?" My children can tell you about days at Pyru from the aluminum rental boats catching 20+ sunfish in a couple hours, with bass in the mix, using closed faced Zebcos. My point is that I am trying to figure out if saving a few bucks with an Ugly Stick is worth it. They are half the price of the Seeker rods. Thanks for any help.-Ted
