Hi Mike,
Reds here are completely different. They are Rockfish (ok, snappers). There are big differences in names of fish from coast to coast. Here we have croakers, which closely resemble a red on your coast.
A "T" shark here is a Thresher shark, not a Tiger shark. We don't have Tigers here thank goodness. However, we do have white sharks. And judging from the sealion I found Sunday washed up on the beach, I may have one in my back yard. Umm, less than half of an adult sea lion that is. Thats two dead ones I've seen here in the last two months. Oh well....
We only use anchors as you do basically. When fishing the bays and in shallower waters. There is no need to anchor in 100' of water. We use a drift method of fishing or we tie off to something on the surface, such as a bouy or kelp. If it is windy, we use a small drift sock (or sea anchor, same thing right?).
I will be going to TX to fish for trout and Reds (black drum) in a few months. I can't wait.
Tight Lines,
Sammy
