: I'd like to be able to find ONE kayak to use for futzing around in the surf AND for still-water flyfishing. I'm looking at either Ocean Kayak's Scrambler XT or Wilderness System's Tarpon 120. Does anyone have any thoughts...or is this even a good idea (should I look at one for surfing only and one for fishing only)?
RE: I have bought a Flyrod also and asked around about the stripping of lines and yaks; and the only info I got was to make sure the area in your lap area is free of fishfinders and such. It seems more important when a fish is on; you would want the line free from potential tangles.
My bigger concern is if you play in the surf, that you would need to omit the center hatch, because it is near the lowest part of the kayak and prone to filling with water in surf conditions or prolonged exposure to water. The front and rear hatches are higher and safer.
