: Left El Cajon Saturday morning at 5 AM, crossed the border at Mexicali. Heading south we were along the sea shortly after 9AMThe first 30 miles south of San Felipe was in great shape, from there it slowly deteriated becoming more and more laden with potholes. At Puertecitos the potholes were replaced by 10 miles of washboard. We planned to stay at Campo La Costilla, but in seeing it we didn't even stop(was like camping in someones back yard.) After coming around Black Mountain we found the perfect spot, a 200 yd gravel beach with 3 roads leading in and a protected cove on the south end, all to ourselves. it was 11:30, we ate a quick lunch, got out our gear and were fishing by 12:30. The air was low 70s, water mid 60s and 5-10 knots wind. I mostly fished #14 Norman deep divers on 12#with my Quantum Iron and 8 foot stick and Tobey threw a red prism Kroc. We fished until dark, ending up with too many lil Spotties to count, a handful of Triggers, a Spinster Wrasse, a small cabrilla and 11 Gulf Corvina, with the smaller ones released. Tobey's kroc caught 8 to my 3. Dead tired we crashed at 8:30 under a billion stars, to be awakened at 3AM by a pack of coyotes fighting over something right near camp.Day 2 we paddled our way south toward Punta Santa Isebel, we fished with a light breeze all morning. More Spotties, a handful of Triggers, couple juvinile Cabrilla, a Leapard Grouper (4#) and 4 Gulf Corvina. I also had 1 unstoppable fish rock m. Wind turned on at noon and kept me from diving, I had brought a Hawaiian sling, but opted for a cigar and a short nap. Wind blew all afternoon so we just fished the finger reef out front. More of the same with 1 Corvina. We had a fish feast Sunday night with grilled Corvina and pan fried Triggerfish and sat around a bonfire.Day 3 5-10 knots wind and high cloudswe headed toward Black Mountaain and if the wind got worse at least we'd heading back with it. Trolling a plug I picked up a Spotted Rose Snapper and Tobey got the biggest Corvina, 7 1/2 # on a Raider right off Black Mountain. I was fishing a boiler rock and once again hooked up and couldn't stop it. Hit the beach at 10:30 and started packing up. The only boats on the water all 3 days were the Shrimpers and 1 panga setting a gill net. The trip home took a little longer as I was detained at a military checkpoint. Their rather extensive searchproduced 4 shotgun shells wedged under the back seat of my truck. They had me thoroughly convinced that I was going to jail, only to let me go, minus my Lil Debbie Snack Cakes and Coca Cola. Yeah I know exactly how lucky I am. The weather, the scenery, the fishing and going with a Baja pro made this an incredible trip.......Andy
