taking a kayak to the channel islands is easily done through island packers they have a website...taking one to catalina is a total hassle, so much so that unless you are going to paddle there (sounds like a job for EE) or have a friend mothership it there, you should rent one, seriously, i've inquired what it takes to do this and posted it last summer, you don't want to know
