: finally going to take my kayak out on saturday. looked at several weather sites and shows partly cloudy skies for that day. This is going to be my first time fishing off a yak and would like to know what lures or bait should I use. whats the hot spots and also whats bitting this time of year. any info is well appreciated.
I've never fished out of King Harbor. Though quite a few people here have...you should get some good feedback of what some of the hot baits to use are. Generally speaking, I would think 3-4" plastics (grubs, swimbaits, scampi, worms, etc;) with assorted leadheads from 1/4oz up to 1oz. Crankbaits, spoons, and a bunch more could work. I think there's a bait receiver there so depending on what kind of fishing you're planning, that could increase your chances. You might want to stock a couple of blue/white or mackeral type irons for the barracuda when they're around. Certain flies may work well too. For the bait, bring some egg sinkers and torpedos for carolina rigging and dropper loop set ups. Size 2 hooks up to 3/0. Everyone does it a little different.......this was off the top of my head.
Good hunting!
