: Here's where I mounted My Scotty rod holder on my Pro Explorer. I use it for trolling and drifting. It keeps the rod out of the way while I'm paddling when I troll. It was a little awkward to get to at first. But I am used to it now and I probably wouldn't want it any other way. Having the rod in front of you when you troll is a great thing. You can watch the tip of the rod when you are trolling plugs. When you get the right speed and the plug gets the right action the rod tip starts throbing. When your plug gets fouled with eel grass or kelp you can tell right away. It's difficult to see this when the rod is behind you. I love it for deadsticking plastics and frozen anchovies. I also use my 10 lb spinning outfit with this set up. I used some 1/4-20 screws, some large fender washers, and some nylock nuts.
I prefer my Scotty in front of the Sonar about 8"(closer towards me). It doesn't seem to get in the way of my sonar. Plus, it's close enough to grab without scooting forward.
