: Davey,I read the story yesterday and it's not really related.1. These were white water kayakers. Not Kayak fishermen.2. They were not wearing any protective clothing.3. They were in kayaks and conditons not related to fishing.I have noticed a trend. The last several kayak disasters were all involving Kayakers who were not fishing. While the off shore disasters are more related to us, fishing in class 3 rapids is not something I think anyone here would attempt.-Ted
Re:It was not that they were kayaking in Sit In Sides or paddling rapids, but the fact that they were wearing PFDs and no wetsuits, and also that they were only 100yds from shore.
I thought it was important that they included the fact that the cold water cools the body 25 times faster than the air, and the air/water index was 96 at the time and not 125 or better that other paddlers should look for when paddling. I live in Northern Calif. and could use some of these ideas to help me better my style in kayaking. I am looking into a good NRS outfit and already have the Mysterioso's to keep me warm. Of course I always wear my PFD.
