La Jolla Shores at 5:30, looked like the right kind of day. Saw C Level and LGG on the beach, paddled out with Kurt. Alot of small stuff puddling, but making bait was tough. After a couple trout sized Smelt, I finally got 2 Sardines. Kurt had already caught and released a Grumpy 5# Sandie on a dead dine. I picked up a 2#er on a Scampi. We made our way 1/2 way to the north west corner. Finally, my flylined dine went off and I went for a 5 minute ride that ended in a breakoff on a stringer of kelp. It was a heartbreaker, felt like a rather big WSB from the deep runs and head shakes. After that, we ran into Fish Head, Yakatak and his nephew and their new found friend, a small seal pup. In the time we were around that seal climbed up on 6 different kayaks and 1 boat, that we saw. Hopefully it is not a trend that continues as he grows big enough to tip you over. In case someone is ready to go off on a rant, we did not encourage the seal at all and actually tried to discourage it, pushing it off with the paddle, it was very persistent. The only thing to do was paddle as fast as you could and pass it on to the next victim. It was hilarious. I trolled a Yozuri Hydromag on the way in and picked up a 3# Calico before hitting the beach around 11:00, wish I could go again tomorrow.......Maybe Tuesday.
