Launched dry @ 6am with zero pucker factor waves. Set up and made a few casts in the kelp and arrived @ the 55 spot about 7. Poked around a bit and then metered some fish just west of the pinnacle. 5 casts, 5 legal sandies to 18 "(kept for dinner). From 8 to 9:30 ish caught 4 more. Drifted the flat between the 77 and 55 for a nice flattie which I promptly released at the yak ( not my intention ). The bite slowed down from there and I ended my fishing with a total of 10 sandies, 1 calico and a 'but ( I'm still counting him ).
Met some very friendly PBrs (SkipJack 25 drop me an email) and headed in at 12pm. Stopped in the kelp to stow the gear and, as I drifted into a clearing, I realized I could see the bottom. Checked the meter and it read 35'. It was so clear I could see my 5" FT sitting on the bottom. My concentration suffered and I dropped my Scotty overboard and watched it drift gently down into a crevice between two rocks, spooking two Gerabaldi who seemed to give me a stern look. As I drifted into 20' I could even see the small green crabs picking their way across the rocks. The fishing seemed to take a back seat as I drifted and watched for the better part of an hour. What a fantastic day. Hit the beach dry about 1:30 loaded up and headed for home.
JAS, how was your afternoon session??
