Fished the Shelter Island area today with I.B. Boyd and PAL. Boyd and I brought our Plano buckets along with the hopes of getting some live bait. We launched a little after 9:00 A.M. We paddled over to Shelter Island pier. I heard they sold bait there. Just as we started to walk up the ramp from the dock on the pier the old guy there said " sorry we don't have any live bait and haven't had any for a couple of days ". By live bait I mean anchovies. He said the Everingham Bros. , which is where they get thiers, didn't have any. When he does have it it runs $4.50 a dozen. I tried to catch some under the pier using a Sabiki with a lot of tangles, eel grass, frustration and finaly I said the hell with it and decided to fish with frozen anchovies and plastics instead. We paddled across to the battleship moorings and fished for a couple of hours. I didn't even get a nibble. Boyd and PAL each caught 1 spottie. The wind started to pick up around 11:00 A.M. Pal had to leave at 11:30. Boyd and I fished a while longer and decided to go back to the other side of the bay near the pier. The wind was comming out of the North witch in its self wasn't good for drifting. It was getting stronger and really started to blow. We decided to head for the barn about 1:00 P.M. We ran into Surfdoc on the beach when we got back in. It was nice talking to you Surfdoc. Boyd and PAL it was good fishing with you guys. Even if the conditions were not the greatest. We'll get 'em next time.
