I guess the old kayak still has a few tricks left.
Arne, the guy that bought my kayak showed up at 4:00am at the beach the very next morning after buying it. Since I was just fishing with a friend, it turns out they know each other, we all headed out together. Up to the pier for some perfect bait, in very short order we were on the fishing grounds waiting for a little light. Although raining and chilly it was a great morning with lots of life in the water and lot's of old friends that I haven't fished with in a while. We slow trolled the Macs for a while cursing the occasional cloudburst. I had just metered a large bait ball and when I look up I see Arne get bit. With a little coaching (turn off the clicker, keep pressure on the fish) and some cheering on he brought a 30lb class WSB to the kayak. As he had no gaff my friend Mark B. (one of my first clients over eight years ago) offers an assist. Arne was off the water well before 8:00 with his first kayak fish, and a nice one at that. The luck stayed with that kayak as I saw no other fish landed that morning. I don't know if anyone else even got bit. A freight train that cut the line as soon as I put the reel in gear did hit me. (Shark?) Lot's of dolphin and other sea life to show us what it really is all about, and adds to beauty of this place. It was a cold rainy morning but I still never get tired of being out there, even better when you can fish with friends and see someone get their first fish.
I do still have two Scupper Pro's left one TW and one two hatch. The two hatch kayaks are great for the spear fisherman.
We should have better weather later this week so I hope to see you all on the water.
