: Great surfless launch w/ no wind. Overcast, though the sun poked through at about 1pm.

: Seems like all I kept finding were Sculpin holes. A perch has more fight. I think the Sculpin save their energy for when you get them to the yak. They seem to hair up a lot more after they're off the hook. And they seem to stay alive longer out of water than most other fish. Be careful w/ these guys. Especially when they're mouth is closed. I've seen them hair up in the sink at home 5 hours after catching them.
: I really was stoked about today because the plastics started getting chomped big time. A couple of Sandies in the morning at the shallow kelp. On my way in, I decided to drop 5" fish traps w/ 1/2oz lead head down the kelp columns. There was serious territory being established by the Calicos. My plastics were getting inhaled. Nice 4-6lbs. Man, I missed that. Usually was getting hit towards the bottom. The water did warm up a few degrees. A few more degrees and they should be a little higher up. Stay tuned.....

: PS...Anyone lose a boat due to lack or bouyancy? Vessel Assist and the Coast Guard were all over Corral up to Paradise searching.

: Also, I almost ran over a huge dead seal in the kelp in front of Escondido. It was one of those spotted chunky ones (maybe a sea lion even, not sure). Didn't notice nor looked for any bites.
: NEWS: A lot of dolphins and seals have been getting washed up lately. It's not due to predatorial attacks. There is a large amount of blue algae, or larger than normal, getting eaten by fish that they eat. When the seals and dolphins eat these fish whole, they develop some sort of toxic condition. I know VERY little about this..........Though it wasn't caused by GW, I don't like hanging out for all that long near floating dead seals. How about you??

I saw a dead spotted seal pup floating near the kelp bed on Sunday morning just NW of Ventura/LA county line. He looked relatively newly dead (not too bloated & no noticeable smell). I heard that there have been a lot of dead birds and other mammals washing up lately. A friend mentioned something about some pesticide or something used recently on Catalina Island. Supposedly runoff from rains a week or so ago have leached the toxins into the ocean? I don't know, but it sounds pretty scary.
