I launched at 5:30AM into a strong onshore wind, larger than normal waves and low tide. Paddled straight out to the yellow buoy that marks the end of the reserve and unpacked my gear. This takes about five minutes and in that time I had been blown back 200 yards.

While making bait I talked to the Iceman (always a pleasure) and the Quiet Man (good to finally meet you). First I caught a short barracuda, had a Spanish fall of as I lifted it out of the water and then I got wrapped up in some kelp. Eventually everyone around me was catching bait but me, and I finally was given a mack by thelifeguardguy. I know that I’m not the first person to have this happen to, but when I got home and was rinsing off my gear I found that all the lures were still on my sabiki but ALL the hooks were gone.

I paddled and talked with Moyer the Fish Destroyer, then we were joined by Brain who paddled us out and showed us where he has caught some of the (7) (I think) WSB he has taken this year.

It was one of those days where some times you were paddling hard just to stay in one place and the swell always had you on guard. It never got any worse but it never got any easier either. I neither saw nor heard of any fish being caught today.

· Fished from 6-10
· (1) short barracuda
· (12) kayaks (6) Pb’rs (2) ½ day boats
· strong NW wind all morning
· mostly cloudy with some sun
· green dirty water
· no bait until well after first light
· fished the north side of the kelp straight west from the beach

Thanks Brian & Matt for the bait and fishing advice ~john
