When I arrived at the Shores the tide was so high that I didn’t have to drive onto the beach to unpack. Launching at about 5am, the sky was crystal clear and the stars were shining brightly. The waves were stacked up and breaking one right after the other with only a couple seconds in between each of them. Even the smallest breakers had the power to turn a kayak sideways, setting up the next wave for the knock out punch. I made it out wet but I heard later that many more didn’t make it out than did.

I caught 4-5” Spanish and 6” greenbacks at the pier. The morning swell was hugh and the offshore wind chill was real. I had more clothes on than I did on New Years Day and was still cold.

I trolled a mack south across the canyon at the 627’ deep mark. The point was not at all crowded. I saw Tom Booth, Jimm Hoffmann, swingfish and SD Jeff. No body was catching anything but, by 9am the wind died so I took the last little candy bar macks I had left and using my new Eagle brand Fish Easy 2 Potable FF I paddled out into 120’ and located a couple Sand Bass for the evening BBQ.
