I spoke with Sean and he had the following to say about the NEWEST addition to the Malibu Kayaks line of boats...
The boat was designed to fit a wide range of paddlers with specific attention being paid to larger fisherman.
The Rudder is an optional item that is just a steering assist. It is by no means necessary, but remember, with kayaks, tracking and turning is a fine balance.
When this boat was first put in the water, Sean had a guy sit in the cockpit that was in the 220lb range. Sean then sat on the guys lap, so this put the weight up around 360. They then added dive tanks and gear, and the seating was STILL mostly dry.
And stability?... The Extreme is actually MORE stable than the Pro Explorer, if you can believe that.
Regarding Speed, The extreme has tested quite well so far and seems to be very fast, but that, along with hull slap and all of the other traits will best be answered by taking the boat for a trial.
All in all, Sean tells me that the Extreme was DESIGNED to be the ultimate fishing platform, and from seeing the pictures, I can believe it.
I can't wait to take this thing for a spin and see for myself.
