Launched at 6:30am fished till 10:30am, water was clear in the harbor and crystal clear outside by the reef, north of the canyon. Swell was about 1-2 feet and no wind, just an occasional slight breeze with the sun out. Caught 6 sandbass, and some kind of rockfish, all on the slow troll with a watermelon/redflake finesse worm (drop shot) kept a 3-1/2LB bass, and released the rest.
Charlie had only big sardines when i launched, so i passed on them, MISTAKE!!, but other yakkers who I met out there had anchovies, the bait boat came in around 7:30. Mistake?, yeah a private skiff was out there and nailed a legal butt on one of those big sardines...dang dang dang. Another yakker said he nailed a borderline legal, he had no measuring tape and didn't want to chance it, so let it go. And yet another yakker nailed a nice calico on an anchovie.
