Launched from the KH hand launch around 7:30AM with a crew that would have made for a great Police line up.

Let's see... there was JAS, Ted, Greg T, DefJack, and Sean. The Exterminator was oot and aboot along with a few others, and when we came back in, DOMPFA Ben and Wild Bill Fisher had just come out.

Greg got a TON of good bait from Charlie and our little band of merry men split his large scoop up between his killer live bait tank (Killer as in "Really Neat" and not in a "Death to Chovies" kinda way), and our Plano Tow Behind Minnow Buckets, and then headed out of the harbor.

Headed out towards the artifical reef with tons of baitfish boiling on the surface and many bait balls on the meter. The swell was moderate and after we started metering fish we all proceeded to get our lines wet.

I started Dragging a Chovey from one rig and then set my smaller rig with a Watermelon colored Power Pulse worm on a lead head. My First bait had been down about 2 minutes when I nailed my fist one of the day... A Nice Small Black Sea Bass, which was a first for me. It sure is great that these big a beautiful fish are making such a successful comeback.

Then we all sort of spread out. The current was taking us towards Huntington Beach so I pulled up my lines and headed back towards the entrance of KH and then once I had the Sailing Bouy in sight I found the edge of the canyon and went out from there.

I have never had so much showing on my FF.

I rigged both poles and started my drift when all of a sudden my clicker started screaming on the rod with the live bait, so I set the hook and started a good fight. No sooner had I started that fight when my other pole with the Power Pulse Worm bent over and line started running off of it. (BTW. Thanks to Def Jack for giving me the worms to try. MAN-O-MAN but the Sandies do love them.)

Since I was fighting the one already I simply let the other one be... Big Mistake. I got the first fish to within visual range and saw that it was what looked to be a nice and legal Butt. Once he saw the surface with my smiling mugg, he took off for the bottom again. This is when the problem started. The line from my second rig arced out, and then crossed my line with the butt on it, and then it came back on the inside.

To make a long story even longer... I suffered a major brain fart and decided that it would be a good idea to try and fight one fish for a few seconds, and then fight the other one for a few seconds. DOH!

Something about a bird in the hand comes to mind.

Anyhow, when all was said and done... the 2 lb Sandi on the light rig wrapped itself all around my Butt line and of course... the fish I farmed was the one I wanted to keep. Oh well.

Soon after, the rest of the crew came over to my honey hole and not long after that Sean sang out as he fought a huge Sandie. Easily 5 - 6 lbs.

I caught a few more Sandies and Sean and Greg both lost large Mystery Fish. (Hey, who knew the bottom could fight so hard?)

Wind kicked up and the chop got bad, and we all called it a day.

All in all, a heck of a fun morning with a great bunch of guys. Hope we can all hit it again soon... BUT STAY OUT OF MY SPOT NEXT TIME, Dag Nabbit!
