: Hey Pal-I have been fishing the Big Sur area on a monthly basis for the past two years. The fishing can be wicked down there, with 50-100 fish days being pretty typical. The mill creek area is good, but tends to be relatively fished out. I offer a guide service down into the area that covers techniques for maximizing your catch, catching and handling big fish, and safety specifics for the area. I also know of a number of "secret spots" that don't receive the fishing pressure that the more public spots get. Contact me if your interested, or if you have any more questions about the area.Tight LinesBrendan: I'm packing my family up to Big Sur (Pfiefer Big Sur State Park to be exact) and Monterey for a week in late July. Other than down south at San Simeon, what are the prospects for launching a kayak for a fishing trip or two? A book I have recommends Mill Creek Picnic Area just south of Fergusson-Nacimiento Road as a fairly sheltered launch site. But it also notes the launch is within the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. I can handle a fairly short and not too steep portage to a launch site. What other areas should I consider between Big Sur and Monterey?I'm sure I'll take a paddle off Monterey itself. Where and what can I fish for from the beach just north of Fisherman's Wharf? Thanks!Paul L aka PALSan Diego
Brendan,
Paul is a veteran yaker. I think he's just looking for a couple of safe launches. What do you think his best bet is for that?
