I love fighting good size fish on my Abu Garcia and California Calico Bass rod. I usually string it up w/ 100 yards of 20#. You get a lot more out of your line when fishing from a kayak. I've even fought and landed Threshers with it. From a boat, I would have been spooled and broken off in a minute.
Fishing Arco sounds like a blast right now. I've fished it from a boat, but not a yak. Where are you guys launching/parking? Easy launch? What off ramp are you using from 101?
If the bite keeps up for a couple more days, I may have to get on up there and try my luck.
