John,
Dents and bumps really should have little effect on the performance of your boat, as long as the center line is still straight and as long as the dents are not large SOFT SPOTS.
We try to make boat hulls as smooth and dent free as possible for reasons that are both appearance related and performance related, but I would tell you that most are appearance related.
I have paddled some boats that were flat stove in in areas, and like I stated above, as long as the center line is still straight, there has been little problem. In fact... for higher speed applications, boat manufacturers are finding that a series of dents, like a golf ball has, actually will make a boat travel faster. This is because when the boat is moving the dents trap air, which in turn reduces the friction and surface tension of the water.
As long as your boat tracks straight when paddled, fits you well, is stable and set up to your liking for fishing, and most importantly was bought at a good price, I would say you got a good deal.
If you are ever interested in another boat, either new or used... look me up.
Ric Hawthorne
