The Malibu Kayak Pro 2 Tandem is 13' long. This is ONLY 6" longer than the Pro Explorer, and the boat weighs about 2 lbs more.
For people under 200 lbs (Not Me) a Tandem can be paddled successfully and comfortably from the rear seat or even from the center hatch and there are plenty of eyelettes to set the seat up in both locations.
The Tandem also provides a bit more deck space in front of you as you paddle, which then provides a superb platform for a bait tank (See Greg-O's setup).
I realize that our tandem is slightly unique, and I make no claims for or against other manufacturers tandems, as a kayak is a truely personal choice, but the MK Pro 2 Tandem is a great boat for one OR two people.
It cuts through surf well, is extremely stabile, has plenty of capacity for any and all gear you may wish to carry, and still maintains superb manueverability with better than average speed.
In short... if you are curious about a tandem, try one out. See for yourself how it fits feels and floats, and then decide if it is the right boat for you.
