"What bait,lures did you use?"
I used swimbaits and long curly tail worms.
Bait is not neccessary unless water is super dirty, and/or you're just not getting bit at all anywhere. In which case a teeny tiny strip of squid on your preferred jig, or whole squid on a bare leadhead might help.
"Need all the help I can get."
I'm hoping that you have SOME kayaking experience. Please wear a life jacket and go with a friend. That is not a place I would recommend for a first timer in the ocean. Conditions change rapidly there. It can get quite rough in a heartbeat.
For a first timer, I would recommend small metal jigs. Any color will do really but brite in dirty water and dark in clean water works good. 2-3oz size and bring a bunch cause you're gonna lose some.
I recommend 15lb test max for beginners so that you can still break it off the bottom when you have to.
Dont put ANY squid or anything else on those kind of jigs. Drop it next to or into some kelp, or deeper open water (70ft), till it hits bottom (or fish) wind up a few cranks and get jiggy with it. Wen you get bit, wind a bunch of cranks real fast before you set the hook.
I don't really know your level of experience in fishing and kayaking, but if you have more questions, feel free to ask.
