If you're not very experienced kayak fishing the open ocean, I would recommend you waiting until you get several days in under your belt. There's absolutely no shame in being new to the sport and waiting until you gain some solid basic skills. Spreading your experiences over several days in a more predictable environment should offer "some" variety of conditions so you're better equipped to handle thick fog, huge rollers and strong gusts should they occur. In otherwords, the more you paddle harbors, lakes, glassy ocean days, the more chances you have of experiencing a variety of conditions and possible condition fluctuations. Things can change fast anywhere, but up there, it seems like fronts move in and out generally faster and with greater force.
