Dana is the Perfect place to take a kid fishing, something is always biting! One of the reasons I bought a FnD is the front kid jump seat!
This is my (fomerly) 5 year old in the Harbor last winter on a warm day. We had a blast, the only negative was hyper-aggressive pelicans near the bait receiver.
If you go again let me know, if I can I will bring my now 6 year old.
I have also fished with all three of my kids in my FnD, one up front and two on stadium seats in the tank well. Remember to plug the scuppers...

: : Hi all,Last night I took my older boy out for a special outing down to the harbor for some ice cream and to walk the dog around. Since it was too late for my younger son (5 years old), I told him that I would take him out for a special Daddy and me outing tonight. Well, this morning he informed me that he wants to go fishing with me on the kayak. I have a pro explorer and have taken him on it before just to paddle around. When I did that, he sat in the tank well. I figure this time he can sit on a pad up front and I'd take him over to the bait barge (Dana point harbor) to cast plastics for him to retrieve. Any advice before I go will be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance for your advice.Kevin I’m sure not everyone will agree with this, but when my children were that age I used to take them out in my SPTW. I would remove the front hatch and have them set on a boat cushion and lean back against another while facing me.We had PFD’s on and I only took them in calm water. It’s normally hard to get a child that age to stand still and talk to you but for the 3 to 4 hours that we would spend fishing/paddling/talking they had no choice. Before long we would have some real good conversations going :)
