: Launched out of Malibu (Across the street from Malibu Seafood)this morning at around 8am with Jonesey. Fished the kelp for bass and drifted for Halibut a little while, 0 (zero) fish on the day. Some pretty light bites, not much more than that. Anyone catch anything today? I am curious to know where. I'm looking for some new spots to try out. I want to launch again on Tuesday. Probably be alone, would welcome some company. Please respond. Thanks
I had a photo shoot for an up comming article in the Ventura Star, supposed to be out next Sunday, before launching, so once all the beach photos were done I headed out solo, looked for Mr T from 8to11 no one around. I stopped at the point above Latigo as crashing birds and boiling bass on the outside of the kelp looked to good to pass up. Calico bonanza! Fish a cast, 5" Fishtraps in Rainbow or Chovie on a 1/2oz.chrome w/ eye or not, didnt matter. Biggest was close to 5lb, per the Boga Grip scale, most were 2 to 4lbs. Left em biting, after an hour of fun. Bass were grabbing the lures on the sink, right on the surface. Follow up fish were all over the hooked fish, fighting to get my plastic out of the other fishes mouth. Need to reorder more plastics, they were chewing good. Bite started just after the tide peaked. All released to fight another day. Good to see the Calicos back in good numbers at this spot. TL Rhino
