Launched out of Corral today at 8 and made my way to Latigo. As I neared the Kelp I could see one kayak fisherman pulling in some calicos. I introduced myself to him, he introduced himself as Ron. He had already caught ten. They were biting on plastics. I got into three but only landed one. The one I landed I caught on my first cast. I farmed the next one, and blew the third reaching for my net (he was a good 4-5 lbs) The bite slowed down considerable shortly after I arrived I guess the extra hour of sleep didn't pay off after all. I tried drifting for some flatties, nothing on them, but caught a small soupfin on the drift. I made my way back into the kelp and caught a short WSB 16". Ron had also caught an 18" WSB earlier. It was a good day despite the fact that I was a little late. I just ate some tastey calico beer battered fish tacos. I only took that one fish and Ron released all of his. So there are plenty of Calicos left to be caught in that Kelp, nice sized too.I enjoyed meeting and fishing with Ron. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful. It's a good community of fisherman. Thanks to Rhino also for sharing the spot and helping familiarize me with the area. Also, Pat, we didn't get to hook up, but thanks for offering. Maybe next time.
