: I forgot to mention that on Sunday we saw a nice size boat out in Paradise Cove. Lately, I'd seen a couple here and there, but this one was different. The closest we got to it was around Escondito, still a mile or so a way. I didn't think much of it at the time.On our return, we ran into a long time kayaker named Franko. Franko told us that he got the inside scoop about the boat from a friend in SB. He said the boat was a research vessel that left out of SB the day before in search of Great Whites. Apparently they keep these "near public beaches" expeditions sorta hushed from the Press as to not stir things up too much.I wonder how long their chum slick was. If you were fishing a mile off of Esco, you most likely were right in the center of a chum slick unless there are certain restrictions for research vessels in relation to chumming too close to the shore. I've gotta think (hope) that chumming for sharks has some sort of restrictions.Point Dume is a good place to start looking for sharks regardless if there are recent sightings or not. Sharks love the point. They were most likely hoping to catch one of the juveniles that were spotted a couple of weeks ago. I haven't verified this but it made sense to us. I'm certainly not trying to ring the GW alarm. I look at it as something that's interesting from an "appreciation of marine life" point of view. Though I'm glad I didn't think it was a bait boat. I may have approached it looking for a scoop of some squid or other bait being that we just came off of a full moon.-.jas
