Cliff,

The newer kayaks have bow hatches and center hatches that make the ability to rig your kayak much easier. Everything comes off the deck and goes in a hatch for landing and launching through surf.

If you are dealing with a kayak that has poor inner hull access then a minimalist approach is necessary.
