I have not tried to put one in, but it can be done. I am not a fan of the screw lid style. If you get a wave that washes into the cockpit from the surf, the sand can really make screwing the lid on a headache.
If you get a lid similar to the ones used on Cobra Kayaks, I would use marine goop to seal down the hatch rim and not a gasket. The hatch that will fit in that space will probably not have a large enough diameter for standard tackle trays, but I have been dumping my tackle trays in favor of disposable tupperware containers. They com in a variety of sizes and are water tight.
Last bu not least. Ocean Kayaks have low cockpits. Be very careful with a center hatch on that kayak when loaded down and in rough conditions.
The Scrambler XT is notorious for sinking through an open center hatch, so be extra careful. You might want to pick up a hand bilge pump, just for extra safety. Everyone wshould carry one regardless of the kayak you paddle.
