Launched out of Carp St. beach 5 AM Wed. Headed towards the pier. First hook up was a Ray. (How do you tell the difference between the ones that sting and the bat rays) Finally got my Rapala out of the Ray veerry carefully. after another 15 min. ZEE ZEEEEEEE,
went for a about a 15 min boat ride and got bit off on 20#. Pretty sure it was a T. Line was all frayed at the end. Guess that's why you should use 100# leader.
I proceeded to the kelp on the other side of the pier. Caught and released 23 small Bass. Tied on another black and silver CD 14 and proceeded to troll back to the beach. about 1/4 mile right out in front of St. Beach, ZEE ZEEEEEEEEE. This one really took off and pulled me around for about 20 min. Straight down and then straight out. This, I was pretty sure was a big one. I got everything secured on my SPTW and was going through my head how I was going to handle the situation. when pop, off again. checked my line, and it was all fayed again. Guess they fray it with that big tail. Bummer, I have never caught one of these guys and to loooose 2 in one morning. Probably would have released them anyway, but would have liked to get some pictures. You won't see me trolling CD 14s
with out 100# mono leader again, that's for sure. the bad part of it, is that there are 2 Ts out there swimming around with CD14s in them. I can only hope they rust out and the fish lives to be caught another day. All in all, it was a fun trip. The water was like glass most of the day.
We had friends staying at the State beach, so I got to launch right there. Where does everybody else launch in that area? I would like to try it again.
