Dear Sir or Madam:
Over the past year I have been made aware of several incidents in which the boating pilot of the "Dolphin" has been harassing fisherman around the La Jolla reserve area. These fisherman are paddling small, plastic, one or two person boats known as "kayaks". This past weekend an incident was described in which the Dolphin again made a deliberate passing at a kayak as he was fishing the area and suddenly turned to avoid collision. Collision was not the intent of the pilot, he is aware that the wake of the large motor engined boat causes enough water movement to tip the kayaker over, causing possible injury, loss of equipment, and most of all, loss of life! This type of behavior is not acceptable.
I am aware that several local kayakers in your community will be notifying you of this incident. Though I personally am not a citizen of San Diego, I have traveled to the La Jolla fishing grounds on several occasions, and hope to continue contributing to your local tourism economy. I encourage you to take the necessary actions to avoid these deliberate boating incidents in the future, prior to any damage or loss of life. There will be several kayakers documenting this issue, past issues, and future issues relating to these type of actions by the Dolphin. I hope that you understand the importance of this issue, and practice due diligence in attempting to deter future similar occurrences with the Dolphin.
From personal experience, I understand the many issues and concerns that your inundated with on a daily basis, however I do hope that you will take the time in addressing this issue with the proper authority or personnel.
