I have never fished the flats in my kayak but I know that it gets very very crowded in that area (that's how you know where the fish are) you should be able to launch from Huntington beach next to the pier just head straight out towards all the boats but call the city first to make sure it is legal the only problem I can foresee you having (aside from all of the boats crammed onto the flats)is making bait there are huge schools of mackerel out there and they are quite large perfect for shark fishing but they are a little too big for using as bait at the flats you might be able to make bait at the pier just make sure you witch out for the anglers on top of the pier and the surfers (sometimes they can both be nasty)let me know if you have any luck I would like to hit the flats in my kayak.
