You can look at private campgrounds in Big Sur proper. When we were up there recently we looked at them and noticed they had availability. They lack in atmosphere, being oriented towards RVs, and are a good 45 to 60 minutes north of Pacific Valley. I don't know much about private campgrounds south of Big Sur, but remember passing at least one near San Simeon.

One possibility is to look for state park campgrounds that feature group sites. Limekiln doesn't have any group sites, but San Simeon might. Group sites are sometimes available when individual campsites have been long sold out. I know San Simeon has a primitive campground in addition to its developed one. Could there be availability here? If you stay in the primitive campground you likely have access to the showers at the developed campground.

I'm looking forward to reading other responses to your question, as I enjoy a hot shower and flush facilities when camping.
