Was up in the area of Fort Bragg Saturday for a bachelor party. Launched at Van Damm state beach to an easy surf launch at the yawn patrol hour of 11.30
Made the short paddle to the point with dive buddies in tow. Very easy limits of abalone were had in 10-20ft of water.. after about a half hour in the water dive buddies headed in and I rigged up to go fishing. Paddled out towards a rock cropping in the middle of the bay and proceded to pull rockfish out in 80 to 30 feet of water. A mixed bag of some good sized fish all released. A local advised that I head out further towards a bouy full of seals, but the afternoon beer was calling my name.
Weather was amazing, visability was 30ft and water was in the low 60's - sure did not feel like nor cal.
Yakkers could camp on the beach or right inland if so desired.
Also spoke with a reasearcher taking fish inventories and she said a 22lb ling came in earlier in the morning. Word had it albacore were within 10 miles of the harbor as well.
